Dosing

Generic Famvir Famciclovir can be taken with or without food. The recommended doses are as follows. The recommended dose for recurrent genital herpes is 1,000 mg twice daily for 1 day. A dose of 1,500 mg as a single dose has been suggested for recurrent cold sores. In suppression of recurrent genital herpes, the dose is250 mg twice daily for up to 1 year. For s hingles the dose is 500 mg every 8 hours for 7 days. A 500 mg twice daily for 5-10 days is useful in HIV-infected patients (cold sores or genital herpes).

Take this drugby mouth with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, take with food to decrease stomach irritation.

If you are treating genital herpes or cold sores, initiate using this drug at the first sign of an outburst or cold sore as directed by your doctor.

If you are treating shingles, cold sores, genital herpes, or herpes skin infection, take Famvirfor the full course of treatment. Don't discontinue it if you feel better in a few days.

Side Effects

Famvir Famciclovir may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Talk to your doctor if you notice general side effects such as diarrhea; gas; headache; nausea; stomach pain; tiredness; vomiting. If they persist or become bothersome, talk to your doctor.

Contact your doctor at once if any of these severe side effects occur: confusion; delirium; disorientation; severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue). There may be other side effects such as change in the amount of urine produced; hallucinations; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; unusual bruising or bleeding; yellowing of the eyes or skin.

Precaution

Caution is advised in the patient with compromised renal function. The doctor may suggest a dosage adjustment of Famvir Famciclovir. You don't require for special precautions for elderly patients or for those with compromised function of liver. Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease. The risk of contamination is high during backsets. If there are clinical manifestations of the disease if in case of the beginning of anti-virus treatment patients should stay away from sexual contacts. The use the drug in the treatment of children has not been suggested.

Pregnancy and Lactation

It is not approved to use the drug during pregnancy and lactation, as the safety of its use in humans is not known.

Storage

Store this medication at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
